As promised, here are the first couple of closet pictures. As some of you already know, I have the coolest closets in the world. My sister Carol, who used to paint theater scenery for a living, decided to “redecorate” the interiors of of my ordinary boring closets with decor from my favorite children’s books. This is what’s in my front hall closet – The Wizard of Oz. If you look closely, you can see some of my coats shoved to either side.
This is the Emerald City, with the poppy field in front. It’s what you see from straight on when you open the closet door. There is, of course, a shelf; above that is this:
The closet door is painted white, with the tornado on it; to see the house, you actually have to go INTO the closet and look back out. The side walls are painted with the Munchkin village, the cornfield, and the forest — don’t ask me how she got it all on, but she did. This is a detail from the forest part:
I could put up a lot more pics, but then this would take forever to download, so I think this is enough for now!
I have to say that is frickin’ awesome! Kudos to your sister for the awesome paint job!
I wish my closet looked that cool!
That is one amazing closet!
And that’s just the front hall. After Christmas, I’ll put up the master bedroom (Narnia), the guest bedroom (Alice in Wonderland), and the upstairs hall closet (Peter Pan)! I think I’ll space them out a bit, so as to be sure not to slow down the site loading too much.
Wow, that’s marvellous! Really magical.
Looking forward to the other pics! 🙂
Wow! I love it!
How fabulous! Thanks for sharing!
Just found your site Patricia and I had to comment on this post 🙂 I can’t wait to see more pictures of the closets. They are so unique and beautiful! I hope you decide to upload all the walls and details.
I’ve been a fan of your work for such a large part of my life. Back in the early 90’s my mother and I would search every store we could to find your books. We finally wrote you a letter and you put us in contact with an out of print store. We were delighted not only to find the missing books, but to find them signed upon arrival. Thank you again.
I am so excited that there is another series coming out and that I now have a blog to keep up on!
Kelly D. – Thanks for the kind words! I’m planning to put up pictures of the other closets, but probably not as many details as you might want. They are lovely, but a) I don’t want the website to get too slow to load and b) it’s hard to take pictures inside closets! It does tend to keep my packrat tendencies somewhat under control, though, as I can’t bring myself to store anything more than absolutely necessary in front of the pictures!
Dude! Those closets are sweet muffins! 😀 I am a huge fan.
That is amazing! You’re so lucky to have such incredible closets!
